Surreal Majismo

A choreographic language

‘I EXPLORE THE INTERSECTION OF MOVEMENT,
MIND AND EMOTION’

My choreographic language recreates the world of Majismo and the universe of Goya in the realm of dreams and the subconscious. My practice is about the deconstruction of the classicism and traditional expressions of the human body.

I search for dialogue and empathy between organic and inorganic abstract movements, the emotions and the imagination. Departing from the body, I merge dance, electronic music, visual arts, physical theatre, and installation art into crafts that involve all senses at once.

‘Surreal Majismo’ draws on a wealth of cultural history, juxtaposing elements of the Hispanic and Afro-Caribbean heritage. Spanning everything from miscegenation, religious syncretism, socio-political issues to romanticism and surrealism, I explore themes such as the unconscious, identity, inclusion, individualism, repression, migration and social animalisation, etc. Defying unique interpretation, my work hopes to set out evoking diverse associations and raw emotions simultaneously.
